For Two Babies, I chose fiction as a forum to present what I concluded independently – but at the same time as thousands of others – regarding then GOP VP Nominee designate Sarah Palin and the birth of her “son” Trig. Hence, Two Babies is wholly a work of fiction, but I based some of the circumstances facing Susan Fox Rutledge and the story’s first-person narrator (‘Dangel’) on actual events then Gov. Palin and I experienced in our real lives. She “had” a baby a few months prior to accepting the Republican nomination for Vice President, and I came upon the unusual circumstances surrounding his birth arrival shortly after she became a national figure.

Sarah Palin is not Susan Fox Rutledge and I am not ‘Dangel’. I’m not even ‘Daniel Archangel’, but that’s a pen name I had before I wrote Two Babies. I am a citizen journalist of sorts, and as a writer I recognize a good story when I happen upon one. I’m also no fool and not a conspiracy nut, although I shouldn’t have to say so to defend against blanket attacks from ill-informed or manipulative partisans. The controversy surrounding the birth of Trig Palin and the questions about Sarah Palin’s claims regarding her pregnancy are real. Further, it was (and is) reasonable to conclude, based on the available evidence, that Sarah Palin did not give birth to the infant she claims is her son.

This assertion – Sarah Palin faked her pregnancy in 2008 – sounds fantastic and fanciful, and the natural inclination would be to dismiss it for anyone not familiar with the evidentiary basis of the conclusion. In a highly-charged political atmosphere, attacking anyone who mentioned the theory – favorably or not – was an easy way to dissuade everyone from speaking or seeking the truth. But Sarah Palin’s 2008 pregnancy and delivery story wears nothing more than the fabled Emperor did. MSM decided not to report the story for reasons I can only guess.

What woman goes into labor in Texas but gives birth in Alaska? Without first seeing a doctor? With a multiple high-risk pregnancy? This is her story, not mine. You can listen to the tape recording made by reporter Lisa Demer of the Anchorage Daily News. And, there’s plenty more evidence:

1)       Here’s a report from when Sarah Palin stunned everyone by announcing she was almost seven months  pregnant. To quote the article, “ … she simply doesn’t look pregnant.”

2)       Here’s a series of pictures which confirms the contemporaneous observations of those who said Gov. Palin didn’t look pregnant when she announced, and for some time thereafter.

3)       Here’s the link describing the labor and delivery circumstances.

4)       Sarah Palin has admitted to deception in this affair including: using clothing to disguise her condition; intentionally withholding from even close friends that she was pregnant; not telling her own children that their “brother” had Down’s Syndrome; not telling airline personnel that she was having contractions during her flight, etc., etc.

To date, Sarah Palin has presented no concrete, confirmable evidence that she was pregnant and gave birth to Trig, although MSM (ABC) (The Atlantic) pressed her to release her medical records and she promised to do so when asked in a nationally televised interview (50 seconds in):

I do not know the whole truth about this controversy. The characters in Two Babies speculate on possibilities related to similar circumstances. Sarah Palin may have been pregnant and given birth to Trig, or she may not have. Except for the principals, nobody is in a position to present unequivocal evidence one way or the other. Sarah Palin has refused to do so. Any reasonable person has to wonder why.

I am 48 and married with one child. I have a professional job in technology with clients who trust me and respect my judgment and advice. I am an active member of a local Rotary Club and have played on sports teams for over 30 years. My eyes are open and I know a snow job when I see it.

In the fable, an anonymous child in the crowd yelled “But he’s not wearing any clothes!!” I am Daniel Archangel and I’m hardly the only one yelling. I suspect those who insist that Sarah Palin’s told the truth will use every fallacious means at their disposal to support their willful blindness. That includes attacking me. Bring it on.
